She is a contemporary dancer and avid reader. One of her favorite genres is old mystery books, such as the Sherlock Holmes series. Bethashley is proud of her work with the International Baccalaureate program and the closeness of her IB group.\u00a0 At Colby, Bethashley plans to pursue Environmental Science and Policy. She is considering a double major in International Relations. Bethashley is especially interested in political ecology. Upon\u00a0graduation, a ceremony is held with all Yes Prep campuses for the senior\u00a0class to announce their graduation and plans. Krisla remembers this\u00a0moment and her announcement to attend Colby as one of the proudest\u00a0moments of her high school career.\u00a0 Krisla is inspired to try many fields in the liberal arts school\u00a0setting. At Colby, she would like to pursue medical school and a health-related\u00a0field in the future. In Houston, she was part of a youth group through a\u00a0small Baptist church. She also enjoys running. While in high school, Emily worked at a Long John Silver\u2019s restaurant.\u00a0She enjoys playing with little kids and loves caring\u00a0her younger\u00a0brother.\u00a0 Emily says that where she is from, not a lot of people are inspired\u00a0to succeed. She is proud of receiving a Questbridge Scholarship and she\u00a0is proud of the respect she receives from her hard work. At Colby,\u00a0Kris plans to major in Biology. The IB program at her high\u00a0school helped her discover Biology in depth. As a \u201chands-on\u00a0learner,\u201d Kris wants to become a doctor and a surgeon.\u00a0 A piano player for nine years, Kris would like to\u00a0pursue a new instrument at Colby. She is also excited to travel\u00a0more. Already, she has been to Turkey and Holland while in high\u00a0school. For the past two years, Holly Lauren tutored elementary school\u00a0students in grades K-8 in all subjects. She is proud of them for their success.\u00a0Holly Lauren is a lyrical dancer, a style of contemporary dance with ballet and jazz influences. She enjoys reading Victorian literature. Ayn Rand\u2019s\u00a0 is one of her favorites.\u00a0 Holly Lauren plans to double major in Psychology and Literature. She hopes to\u00a0make a difference by learning to understand people. Garrett grew up outside of Suffolk and moved to New York for his high\u00a0school years. For the past few summers, Garret has interned at the\u00a0Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York. During his first summer\u00a0there, he studied many different sciences. During the second and third\u00a0summers, Garret worked on environmental science projects that inspired his\u00a0pursuit of the sciences. One of his projects was to assess the health and\u00a0biodiversity of a river near St. James, New York.\u00a0He comes to Colby interested in pursuing the biosciences. He aspires to\u00a0become a zoologist or wildlife biologist. She is a hard worker, and due to her dedication to AP\u00a0classes and student organizations, she is a proud recipient of the\u00a0Questbridge scholarship. Stephanie was active in Key Club, the National\u00a0English Honor Society, and Latin Honor Society. As a member of the\u00a0United Latinas club, Stephanie participated in the Colorado\u00a0Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights.\u00a0Through\u00a0the Denver organization, Stephanie went to Washington, D.C. to lobby\u00a0for government rights and a new perspective of health care.\u00a0 This experience is one of many things that inspired Stephanie to\u00a0pursue Biology at Colby. She is excited to join the small liberal arts\u00a0school environment that Colby has to offer. There, he was the president of his high school\u00a0environmental club. Under his leadership, the club received recognition\u00a0from the National Wildlife Federation and the Environmental Protection\u00a0Agency for their positive influence in the Hollywood community.\u00a0He also started a community cross country club, promoting his\u00a0belief after experiences with costly sports that exercise should be free\u00a0and open to everyone.\u00a0 Juan recently received his certificate for medical\u00a0assisting in May, allowing him to work in clinics and be appointed as a\u00a0phlebotomist, EKG analyst, and Health Care Provider.\u00a0Juan is a recipient of the Questbridge scholarship at Colby. Juan is\u00a0inspired to pursue studies in global health at Colby. She enjoys playing tennis, biking, and reading.\u00a0Victoria is proud of her success in track and field in high school. She began\u00a0throwing discus during her junior year. After months of hard work and\u00a0some surprise talent, Victoria took second at the state championships.\u00a0Victoria plans to pursue neuroscience and stem cell research at\u00a0Colby. She first became interested through a Brown University\u2019s Brain\u00a0Science program. Victoria remembers one particular student researcher\u00a0putting sensors into a tadpole\u2019s head to track brain waves and sharing\u00a0stories of his own journey with neuroscience. Victoria decided then that\u00a0she wanted to dive in and see where the neuroscience field takes her as an\u00a0important and developing field.\u00a0 While at Colby, Victoria would also like to study German language.\u00a0She has fallen in love with the people and landscape of the country\u00a0through her godfather\u2019s stories of being stationed there during the\u00a0Vietnam War. Abraham\u00a0dedicated his school career so far to his classes, working, and track\u00a0and field. At public school in Texas, Abraham was the President of\u00a0the National Honors Society and ran track. He is proud that he was\u00a0able to graduate with honors while juggling his AP classes, sports,\u00a0and work. Abraham was part of a club called \u201cGreen is Love\u201d that his\u00a0coach began. The club planted trees, picked up trash on the highway,\u00a0and recycled every week. Abraham says that he felt like the club had\u00a0a positive influence despite being in a city where environmental\u00a0values can be hard to come by.\u00a0At Colby, Abraham would like to prepare for medical school.\u00a0He is interested in majoring in either Neuroscience or a humanities\u00a0major yet to be discovered as an interest. Abraham likes to write,\u00a0especially about sports literature and African American literature.\u00a0He is excited to take writing seriously. Abraham would like to learn\u00a0a new language and explore new interests and passions. The high school is new; she was part of the third class\u00a0to fully graduate from the Academy. The new school did not have many\u00a0opportunities for classes yet, but Sarah was able to work with the\u00a0faculty to bring in pre-calculus and\u00a0physics\u00a0classes her senior year. She\u00a0aspires to be pre-med and major in biology with the intent to become a\u00a0surgeon. Sarah\u2019s grandmother was a nurse, and her experiences\u00a0inspired Sarah to help others.\u00a0Sarah is also a dancer. She has practiced clogging, a style of folk\u00a0dance, for five years and ballet for two years. She hopes to continue\u00a0dancing at Colby.
