Welcome to the Medieval Canon Law Virtual Library, curated by David M. Freidenreich.

The purpose of this site is to bring together in a single virtual location publicly accessible electronic resources for the study of medieval canon law.  It’s a work in progress, so please provide feedback and suggestions for further improvement.

The Medieval Canon Law Virtual Library has been made possible by Colby College, which hosts this site and many of its files. Special thanks to Edward Reno III, who prepared many of the scans found on this site, and to Columbia University Libraries Electronic Texts Service for facilitating the digitization of many of these documents; thanks as well to the Stephan Kuttner Institute of Medieval Canon Law at LMU Munich.

A NOTE ON DOWNLOADING FILES: Many of the files found on this site are very large.  If you have difficulty downloading these files using a web browser like Firefox, try right-clicking on the download link and select “Save Link As.”
