As a track athlete, I had some prior knowledge of the subject, and I knew that the phosphocreatine system existed and that, somehow, it allows for high-effort activity for around 10 seconds.\u00a0 It was nice to learn and see a diagram of how phosphocreatine works in the body, as I now feel more knowledgeable on a topic that is important to my everyday life and my interests, which is a nice feeling.\u00a0 It also made me wonder how creatine supplementation could influence the effectiveness of the creatine phosphate system. Would it increase performance in a 10-second window, or would it allow high-effort activity for 11 seconds? <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Then, learning about glucose storage and glycogen breakdown helped me to better understand what goes on in my body after 10 seconds into my race and why the foods I choose to fuel myself with prior to a meet or practice are important. The case study involving the debranching enzyme defect (solved by constant feeding and starch consumption) also helped me to understand why the timing of intake can be just as important as what an athlete eats to fuel their performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found the topic of ATP stores in the skeletal muscles really interesting.
