When a student knows that he or she is receiving support both inside and outside the school, the chances of that child becoming responsible for and active in their education are more likely.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>More than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imom.com\/why-parental-involvement-in-education-is-so-important\/#.W09IKtJKhPY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80 percent<\/a> of new teachers feel that parental support and involvement is the most challenging area they face. They feel that parents are either unwilling or simply\u00a0don\u2019t have time to participate in their child\u2019s education. One thing that\u2019s also important to remember is that education is more than what happens inside the four walls of a classroom. For example, Sheena White, a graduate of The University of Chicago says that spending time together around the dinner table, sharing stories and having a conversation is a part of educating your kids and it goes without saying that <a href=\"https:\/\/dinnertablemba.com\/how-to-be-a-good-parent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parental involvement<\/a> here is key. Even if you\u2019re actively involved in your child\u2019s formal education, if you\u2019re absent in the other, less formal, parts of their education, there will many issues that follow.\u00a0Parental involvement in kids\u2019 education (the one they get both in and out of the classroom), is important, the bigger question is: Why is parental involvement in education so important? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonchristian.org\/blog\/the-importance-of-parental-involvement-in-your-childs-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research<\/a>\u00a0finds that\u00a0parental involvement helps provide children with\u00a0attention and praise which, in turn, helps them recognize their education is worthy of adult interest. As children tend to model adult behaviors, when parents are actively involved with their schooling, children will learn the importance of education and try to emulate those behaviors from their parents.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/neatoday.org\/2014\/11\/18\/the-enduring-importance-of-parental-involvement-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Education Association<\/a>, \u201cOngoing research shows that family engagement in school improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores parents\u2019 confidence in their children\u2019s education. Students with involved parents or other caregivers earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and show improved behavior.\u201d And while it\u2019s better to have one parent show an interest in a child\u2019s education, research shows that getting both parents on board can have a major impact.\u201cStudents with two parents operating in supportive roles are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachthought.com\/learning\/the-effect-of-parental-involvement-on-academic-achievement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">52% more likely<\/a> to enjoy school and get straight A\u2019s than students whose parents are disengaged with what\u2019s going on at school.\u201d Research shows that students perform better in school\u00a0if both parents are involved, regardless of the whether both parents live with the student or not.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-536 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/achievementgap\/files\/2019\/03\/parent-involvement.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"259\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Post by: Matthew Hanna<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parental involvement in education is a very important aspect for creating a safe and\u00a0cooperative environment for the\u00a0child to feel comfortable and succeed in.
