Production Lab Series

ACTORS, DANCERS, and CHOREOGRAPHERS NEEDED!!!!!

The Performance Lab Series is a department supported but student run project that will be performed from April 26-29, 2012. This year’s project, Move: The Summer of 1963, is both a theater and dance piece that will explore themes of political, social, and physical movement in the United States in the 1960s. Here’s a longer but still compact description:

Move is an exploration of space, movement, and stillness through dialogue and dance. In the summer of 1963, two men meet working as professional movers, moving families from one house to another. The work unfolds as they move furniture and transform the space. During this turbulent historical chapter, revolutionary era in music, and time spent creating new spaces for their clients; the characters will learn from each other, but not truly change. Their stubbornness and fear prevail.

After each scene is a dance piece in the “room” John and Mark created, during which the actors remove the furniture. The dancers will act as though the furniture is still present, contributing to the exploration of movement and space. All of the dances will be influenced by the historical, musical, and social context of the summer of 1963.
