Colby’s New Library Site

Current SGA President Morgan Lingar and Treasurer JJ Ndayisenga and incoming Co- President Wayne Kim talked with Colby librarians and visited the new book storage facility. The College is currently in the process of moving books from Miller Library into the storage facility, which is only just down the road from Alfond Apartments.

A large collection of books – the “core collection” – will remain in Miller Library, however. The core collection consists of books selected on three criteria. First, librarians consulted  with faculty to determine what books should remain in Miller in their subject areas. The second group of books in the core collection are those published since 2000, and third are those works that have circulated in the past ten years. Books that are requested from the storage facility are brought to campus twice each day for both faculty and students. The storage facility itself is capable of holding half a million books, and is climate controlled.
