With one week of intensive Czech down and core classes set to begin this upcoming Monday, I have grown to embrace Prague as my new home for the semester. At first the language barrier was not that difficult but still provided obstacles when ordering food, grocery shopping, or interacting with the locals. Having learned the basics in order to communicate these daily tasks with ease, the city has opened up. We are able to experience more not just physically, but with deeper understanding and appreciation.
Studying at Charles University, the oldest institution in Central Europe, will allow myself to learn and engage at a rigorous university while away from Colby. I look forward to taking Prague as a Living City: Anatomy of a City which will allow my roommates and myself to learn about Prague much more than just living here. I am excited about the opportunities I will have during my semester abroad here in the Czech Republic.
