MU 153: Introduction to Music Theory Through Composition

An introduction to the fundamental elements of music theory through analysis and composition. Students will learn to compose pieces in a variety of styles by effectively manipulating rhythm, intervals, scales and keys, melody, harmony, and form. Primarily for students without extensive musical training. May be taken as preparation for Music 181. Students cannot receive credit for both this course and Music 154.
