Bienvenidos! Bem-vindos! Welcome!
The Latin America Studies Program provides students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of this fascinating, complex region of the world. The interdisciplinary program coordinates an enriching collaboration between the departments of Anthropology, Government, History, Economics, and Latin American and Latino/a literature. Through the integration of a variety of approaches to the study of the region, majors explore both historical and contemporary social, political, and economic issues, tensions, and inequalities that challenge the area, while also attaining an awareness of and appreciation for the rich cultural diversity of Latin America. Study abroad, the biannual Walker symposium, internships, independent research, and visiting scholars, artists, and activists enhance formal classroom learning, and LAS graduates emerge as active global citizens capable of analyzing and articulating central issues affecting Latin America.
