James Rodger Fleming, Fixing the Sky: The Checkered History of Weather and Climate Control (Columbia University Press, 2010) has received best book prizes from both the Society for the History of Technology and the American Meteorological Society. Here are the details:

Society for the History of Technology, Sally Hacker Prize. Fixing the Sky (Columbia University Press, 2010), has been chosen as the winner of the 2011 by the Society for the History of Technology. The Sally Hacker Prize is awarded to recognize the best book in the history of technology directed to a broad audience of readers, including students and the interested public.

American Meteorological Society, Louis J. Battan Author’s Award. James Rodger Fleming, “for his book Fixing the Sky: The Checkered History of Weather and Climate Control, a comprehensive review of the history of weather modification, which culminates in a critical consideration of geo-engineering approaches to climate change.” The Louis J. Battan Author’s Award is presented to the author(s) of an outstanding, newly published book on the atmospheric and related sciences of a technical or non-technical nature, with consideration to those books that foster public understanding of meteorology in adult audiences. Nominations are considered by a committee of the Education and Human Resources Commission, which makes recommendations for final approval by AMS Council.
