Waiting for a minyan Etz Chaim Synagogue, Portland, 1991
Certain important Jewish prayers can only be recited in the presence of ten people, a minyan. In the East End, where most of Portland’s Jews lived in the early 20th century, only one synagogue remains. Etz Chaim continues to hold regular services, and most of the time they get a minyan.
