Ahavas Achim synagogue record book

Picture 2 of 10

There were only six Jewish families in Bangor when that city became home to Maine’s first synagogue in 1849. The establishment of Ahavas Achim reflects the need of this small group of German Jews to gather as a religious community. The synagogue closed in 1856, after most of its members left Maine.
