Welcome, Rachel Isaacs and Linda Maizels!

The Jewish Studies Program is pleased to welcome two new faculty members:

Rabbi Rachel Isaacs  is Colby’s new Jewish chaplain.  She will teach courses in Hebrew language and will also offer a January course on “Jewish Theology.”  In addition, Rabbi Isaacs serves as the advisor to Colby Hillel and the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Israel of Waterville.  She was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2011, after earning her B.A. from Wellesley College in 2005.
  Linda Maizels is the Faculty Fellow in Jewish Studies for 2011-12.  She will offer courses on the “History of Antisemitism” and “American Jews and Judaism from World War II to the Present,” in addition to teaching the survey courses “Conceptions of Jews and Judaism” and “Jews and Judaism in the Modern World.”  Prof. Maizels earned her doctorate from the Hebrew University in 2010 with a dissertation on Jewish student identity and the “New Antisemitism” on American college campuses, 1967-1994.
