Photography I is the first course in our photography sequence for most students beginning in the medium at Colby. Even those students who have taken several photography courses in high school have much to gain by starting at the beginning at the college level. Before taking Photography I, however, you must take one of the necessary prerequisites: AR131 or AR138.
Photography I covers basic black-and-white film photography and printing, as well as the language of basic photography. Students complete assignments that take on technical, conceptual, and perceptual problems and finish the semester with a self-designed final project.
Photography II offers an introduction to the tools and techniques of color and digital photography. Photography III and further courses allow students to pursue more individualistic problems using either analog, digital, or a blending of processes to complete their work.
