Learning differences such as dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, processing difficulties, and even unusual learning styles present challenges for students and faculty alike. Students may come to college with diagnosed or undiagnosed learning differences; they may also seek assistance and accommodations or resist them. While privacy concerns require that faculty allow students themselves to raise LD issues and that they follow accommodation guidelines, the Writers’ Center offers assistance to faculty and students by providing a safe environment to discuss issues of learning differences. We can also recommend articles and books that may be useful. As with ELL, we are making it a priority to assist LD students and faculty members working with them. We have recruited and trained tutors with learning differences who are eager to share their learning strategies in peer review sessions as well as in informal discussions.
