English 112, Expository Writing Workshop

For students who want extra work in writing, whether for work in first-year writing courses, advanced writing projects, or assignments for writing-intensive courses in any department at any level. Meets as an individual tutorial in the Writers’ Center, minimum of ten sessions a semester.  Nongraded. One credit hour.

English 114, Global English

For English Language Learners. Intensive practice in composing in English with attention to the requirements of the American academic essay. Work on syntax and grammar as needed. Nongraded. Three credit hours.

English 214, Tutoring Writing

The theory and practice of peer tutoring.  Discussion of readings on the process of writing and methods of tutoring, combined with peer review practice of student papers, mock tutorials, and supervised tutoring sessions. Students completing the course may apply for student employment positions as tutors in the Writers’ Center. Nongraded. Prerequisite: Approval of the instructor in the Writers’ Center. Two credit hours.
