With the decreased number of students on campus during the JanPlan period, the Farnham Writers’ Center will be going down to part-time operating hours (6-10pm) and instead offering “OnCall” services during the day. Students interested in signing up for a session should email FWC Coordinator Alexander Champoux.
Three tutors from the Farnham Writers’ Center attended the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing (NCPTW) Nov. 1-3 in Tampa, Florida, along with Director Paula Harrington and Coordinator Alexander Champoux. Olivia Biagetti ’14, Justin Lutian ’15, and Andy Kang ’15 presented a panel titled “Negotiating Tutee Anxiety and the Identity Gap” with specific focuses on working with community college tutees, tutees of diverse sexualities, and tutor-tutees. In addition to presenting, the representatives of the FWC attended presentations from other colleges and universities on topics falling under the conference theme “Year of the Writer.”
Looking to better serve the growing population of international and non-native speaking students at Colby College, the FWC has hired a new part-time Multilingual Specialist, Roger Jack. He is also an ESL teacher in the Auburn school system, and has his M.Ed. in ESL Literacy from the University of Maine Orono. Interested students can sign up using the “Roger Jack” schedule on WCOnline, or by clicking on the button on the FWC homepage.
