Mary Edith Farr was born on October 22, 1866 in Oakland, Maine. She was the daughter of Warren Alonzo Farr and Elizabeth Bates Farr. Prior to Colby, she attended Melrose High School in Massachusetts and Coburn Classical Institute. She graduated from Colby in 1888, with four other women. After Colby, she was a teacher at Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage, Iowa, 1888-93; a graduate student at the University of Chicago, 1893-94; and also taught in Laconia, New Hampshire and in Worcester and Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was a member of Sigma Kappa at Colby. She married Woodman Bradbury (Colby College class of 1887, a pastor and later trustee of Colby) in Waterville, Maine in 1895. She had one daughter, Elizabeth Farr Bradbury, born in 1899.
