Colby 1891 A.B
Effie Dascombe Adams was born on June 2, 1868 in Wilton, Maine. She attended Wilton Academy in Wilton, Maine. She enrolled in Colby in 1888 and was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. After graduating from Colby, Effie spent one year teaching at Grafton High School in Grafton, Massachusetts. She married Emerson L. Adams, who was the principal of the New Salem Academy and who went on to serve as the first superintendent of schools in the school union, which included New Salem. Effie had three children: Ethel, Ruth and Arlo. She had several grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In her last years she was nearly blind, but still continued to write interesting letters to her friends. She died at the age of 94 after a two-week illness in her home in Cranston, Rhode Island.
