Cornie Maynard Spear

Cornie Maynard Spear was born in Kennebunk, Maine, daughter of David and Julia Anna (Hatch) Spear. Her family moved to Freeport, and then later to Portland. She graduated from Hebron Academy in 1886, and from Colby in 1890. She married William Lovell in 1901. Her husband was a teacher of music at Williston Academy in Easthampton, Massachusetts, and a public school music supervisor. Spear was a teacher at Wilton Academy in Maine; Lakeport High School in New Hampshire; and a Latin teacher at Portland High School, Portland, Maine until 1901; from 1904-1938 she was Head of the Latin Department at the Easthampton High School in Massachusetts. She died February 16, 1949. She died only 3 days after her sister, Mary Spear, also a Colby alumnae (Class of 1893).
