Bessie Randall White

Colby 1886

Bessie R. White was born in North Harpswell, Maine, and graduated from Colby (University) in 1886 to pursue teaching. While at Colby, she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and won the female component of the “Junior Part” College Award. She moved first to Somerville, Massachusetts, where she taught from 1886 to 1893, and then Brooklyn, New York, where she started teaching in 1893 at the Girls’ High School with her fellow Colby graduate Julia Winslow ’86.
