Major Exploration is a process that can seem daunting and overwhelming as you begin your college career. This is a process that shouldn’t be rushed. Rather, you should spend adequate time exploring academic opportunities at Colby and how a particular major is a good fit for you. You may ask what defines a good fit for a major. Some good questions to ask yourself as you explore different majors include:
- What subject areas do I like and why?
- Have I thought about career interests and how that matches with a major?
- What are my personal strengths and weaknesses? Interests and skills?
- What are the benefits of majoring in “X” major?
Just like deciding on a major, Career Exploration is a primary part of your career development and happens in many stages. It is important to note that there is no single career that is a good fit for you, and therefore spending ample time exploring careers will be instrumental in your success both as a Colby student and alum.
For assistance with your major and career exploration needs, please make an appointment to meet with a staff member in the Career Center.
