Resetting IE to Open in Full Screen

Do you use Internet Explorer?  Did you – maybe once – click the little button in the top right corner on a web page to reduce the window size and regret it every after? This is one of IE’s more annoying features.

Resetting the Size for the Main Window

Here is how you make IE go back to opening with a full screen:

  • Close all instances of IE
  • Open a single window in IE
  • Click on the Expand Window button in the top right corner of the window
ie-1
  • CTRL-Click on the “X” button to close IE

  • Next time you open IE, it will open in full screen mode

Resetting the Size for Pages That Open in a New Window

Do you still get a reduced window when you click on a link that opens in a new window? Or do you want to set a specific size for links that open in new windows?

You can do that too:

  • Close all instances of IE
  • Open a single instance of IE
  • Click on the Reduce Window size button in the top right corner of the window
ie-2
  • Adjust the window by dragging the sides to the size you want
  • Click on the Expand Window size button
  • CTRL-Click on the “X” button in the top right corner of the window
  • Now you reduced window size is reset to the size you wanted
